Call for papers
Date: 9-10 May 2019
Venue: The University of Warsaw, Faculty of Foreign Languages (55 Dobra Street, 00-312 Warszawa, Poland)
The main theme of the conference is the assessment and certification of language proficiency at tertiary level and we invite papers in either English or Polish on the following subthemes:
• models of language certification at tertiary level (language proficiency assessment for general or specific purposes; the place of language certification in the tertiary curriculum; administration of certificate exams; approaches to recognising externally administered exams; language certification of foreign university applicants, etc)
• test construction and compliance with CEFR descriptors across levels and languages (application of CEFR descriptors; assessing the competences and skills addressed in the CEFR descriptors, e.g. receptive and productive skills; cultural, interactional and mediation competences)
• the impact of language specificity on test construction (e.g. choice of texts, cultural norms)
• validity and reliability of certificate exams (including studies of washback)
• ethical considerations of assessment (consequences of high stakes assessment, fairness of assessment criteria; adherence to test specifications)

• Dr Marcin Smolik – Central Examination Commission, Warsaw
A number of workshops on aspects of assessment will be offered during the conference. More information on these will be forthcoming shortly.
Proposal submission:
Papers (20 minutes) can be delivered in either Polish or English. The title of the presentation together with an abstract of 150-200 words in length should be submitted by email to r.kucharczyk@uw.edu.pl using the application form which can be downloaded from: http://rada.wn.uw.edu.pl/en/conference/
Registration fee: 200 zloty or 50 euro
The registration fee includes all conference materials, refreshments as well as a post-conference publication of selected papers. Payment should be transferred to the following account
