Each year the Swedish Language Teachers’ Association arranges a conference, most recently Uppdrag sprak (Mission: Language) in Uppsala. In 2016 we are going Nordic. In collaboration with the language teachers’ associations of the Nordic countries and other partners we invite you to the conference:
The aims and purpose of the conference are as follows:
. To raise the status of languages in the Nordic countries and increase public awareness about the importance and benefits of language skills in each country.
. To promote a Nordic spirit of cultural and linguistic community.
. To spread knowledge of the collaboration between the Nordic countries, and of the goals and efforts of the Nordic council.
. To increase knowledge and awareness of the importance of multilingualism for cognitive skills, economic growth and trade, mobility on the labour market, tolerance and democracy, integration, research, and international cooperation.
. To build and strengthen Nordic networks on several levels: teachers, research, labour unions, minority languages, etc.
. To offer qualitative and versatile in-service training for language teachers.
. To offer an opportunity to interact: to compare conditions and learn from each other regarding languages from the neighbouring countries, heritage-language teaching, school languages, multilingualism and validation, as well as steering documents, in-service training, languages offered, core curricula, ICT, internationalization, language methodology, and much more.
The conference will offer lectures in a number of different strands: a general strand, streams for research, labour unions, Nordic languages, immigrant languages, heritage languages, English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Italian.
