Reviewing Policy
The procedure of reviewing articles contributed to Neofilolog
1. All texts contributed to Neofilolog adhere the guidelines by Ministry of Science and Higher Education presented in the document “Dobre praktyki w procedurach recenzyjnych w nauce” (“Good practice for reviewing procedures in science”) written by Zespół do Spraw Etyki w Nauce, which involves a pre-selection of texts by The Scientific Board and two anonymous external reviewers. The pre-selection is made by The Editors of a themed volume of Neofilolog on the basis of clear criteria (see: first step of evaluation: EVALUATION GRID: DOCX, PDF).
2. The Editors have a right to reject contributions which do not conform to the editing requirements. The texts will be returned to the authors who will be asked to make adjustments to editing requirements.
3. The articles are subjected to double-blind peer-review – they are bilaterally anonymized (the author dos not know who reviewers are, the reviewers do not know who the author is). This involves prior electronic submission of a contribution from which all metadata (tab ‘properties’ in the case of MS Word Text) identifying a contributor are removed. The file cannot be in the format “Read only”. For reviewers and until a review is sent, the editors of the journal remove from the article such data as: first name, surname, affiliation, ORCID identification number, email address, acknowledgements, sources of financing, if they make the identification of the author(s) possible.
4. For articles published in volume 50/1 and after, 75% of the text reviewers are external reviewers, that is reviewers who are not members of the Scientific Board of the journal, nor figure as Editors, nor are affiliated to the same university as the Editor-in-chief.
5. To review each publication, the editors appoint at least two independent reviewers, renowned experts in the area to which the specific issue of the journal is devoted, affiliated to institutions other than that of the author of the publication. In the case of contributions written in a foreign language, at least one of the reviewers is affiliated to a foreign academic institution, from a country other than the author’s nationality. The reviewer decides about whether the text should be published on the basis of his/her evaluation (1 – accept; 2 – accept after including the recommendations in the review; 3 – submit a corrected version again; 4 – reject). The evaluator is obliged to justify his/her decision and identify what revision is required, which will be sent to the author. The identity of the reviewers is not shared with the author.
6. After obtaining all the reviews of a scientific article, the editors, following the opinions submitted, decide about whether a text should be published. In order to be accepted for publishing, two reviews have to be positive. Each review is submitted in writing (see: second stage of evaluation: EXTERNAL PEER-REVIEW: DOCM, PDF) and ends with an unambiguous opinion as to the acceptance or rejection of the article. The author is informed about the Editors’ decision within 120 days from the moment of sending an article to Editors. In the case of one positive and one negative review, the proposed text is not published. However, the author can appeal to the Editorial Board of the journal to submit the text to a third reviewer, whose decision will be final. The reviews signed by reviewers are the property of the journal and archived in accordance with the obligatory regulations, including the European Regulation on Data Protection, (in Poland RODO).
7. The names of reviewers of individual issues of the journal are not made public. A list of reviewers is published in the final issue of the annual volume of the journal.
8. The basic guidelines for reviewers which the editors use in the reviewing process are available in a brochure prepared by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (“Good practice for reviewing procedures in science”).
9. The Editors inform that all cases of scientific dishonesty (plagiarism, self-plagiarism, suppression of the input of others in the research described in an article, or its editing) will be revealed and the relevant entities (institutions where authors work, scientific associations, associations of scientific editors, etc.) will be informed.
10. The submissions should be sent via logging into PRESSTO platform. In order to send a text and check its current status, contributors have to register and log in.
We invite you to publish in our journal!
